HVAC Maintenance at Lord’s Cricket Ground
Lord’s Cricket Ground, known globally as the Home of Cricket and situated in St John’s Wood, London, boasts a rich history and deep-rooted traditions. In 2020, the owners of Lord’s, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) placed its HVAC maintenance needs in the capable hands of Artic. With a team comprising three engineers, a dedicated site manager, and a blend of on-site and mobile support, Artic took on the responsibility of ensuring the seamless functioning of crucial infrastructure elements across 13 diverse buildings within the iconic venue.
Scope of Work:
The all-encompassing maintenance contract spans a variety of services, such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, AC, gas, fabric, drainage, and water hygiene. The onsite team possesses the skill set to self-deliver these services, bolstered by a mobile team that ensures swift responses to any critical issues.
Site Overview:
The extensive infrastructure at Lord’s Cricket Ground encompasses 22 plant rooms, each accommodating complex systems and risers equipped with electrical distribution boards. This intricate network of facility needs forms the backbone of the venue’s operational efficiency, seamlessly integrating to support the diverse needs of the iconic ground.
Operational Details:
While the standard cover extends from Monday to Friday, the unique demands of match days necessitated a flexible approach. On major match days, the team increases to accommodate additional engineers, ensuring a rapid response to reactive calls. Collaborative efforts with MCC ensure a streamlined process, providing a safe and comfortable environment for the supporters and players alike.
Sustainability Initiatives:
In support of the MCC’s sustainability goals, Artic coordinated the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, alongside discreet LED upgrades to optimise energy efficiency. This not only reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility but also contributes to the client’s overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Improving equipment performance:
Artic collaborated closely with BMS specialists to address the inherited challenges with the Ground Source Heat Pump, revamping the system’s strategy and rectifying non-operational components. This complex process, led by our lead engineer resulted in a significant enhancement of overall efficiency and reliability of the equipment.
Conclusion:
Over the last 3 years, Artic has taken pride in supporting MCC in upholding the rich legacy of Lord’s Cricket Ground through meticulous maintenance, actively contributing to its sustainability goals, and optimising energy usage. As we reflect on this partnership, Artic remains committed to the continued excellence and longevity of Lord’s Cricket Ground.
